Welcome to the Barmpton Lane Allotments Association website

The website is intended to be an additional method of providing information for allotment holders and an alternative means for contacting members of the committee.A newsletter option has been created whereby you can opt to receive a newsletter update by e-mail at regular intervals The notice board and normal mail will still be used where necessary. A number of useful links have been included which will direct you to other relevant sites.

The latest newsletter has been produced and you can access this by clicking on the newsletter link. You will only receive a quarterly newsletter and nothing else. The newsletter is more user friendly and allows easier provision of photographs than the website.

The water supply is now on.. The restriction on sprinklers passed at the AGM comes into operation on the 1st January 2012. Last year the water bill took a third of the income of the Association. Good gardeners know that 90% of the water applied by sprinklers evaporates shortly afterwards, particularly on sunny days and that it prevents roots from hunting down for water thus making plants less drought resistant.
Plot holders are encouraged to maintain and plant or seed the area in front of their fence-many did so last year and helped the site to win the Northumbria in Bloom trophy. The plot holder opposite me has scattered a box of flower seeds specifically to attract bees and insects- £1 a box from Morrisons. Sadly, Netto's 19p seeds have gone- the new B and M Home Bargain store  (behind North Road Morrisons) and Aldi  had the cheapest seeds on my recent trawl of Darlington shops.
PLANT AND SEEDLING SALE AND SWAP:   This will be on Sunday 29th April from 10.00 a.m. onwards at the association garage/shed. Most gardeners have excess plants , seedlings, seeds etc so bring them along or leave with a committee member prior to the day.
The insurance is now arranged so hire of the rotovator and grass cutting can now proceed.
